Hello. Welcome to this first edition of the monthly newsletter. Let's see. What cool news can I talk about here. # Phone repair job Well, first thing on my mind is the impending reprise of my phone repair job thing. Fun. (not fun). I kinda wish I didn't have to go back. But hey, perhaps this time around it won't be so bad. Regarding the training course part of it, we're gonna dive into the real meat this time instead of staying surface level, so it might be more interesting. Similarly, I hope whatever job I land will be a better place for me. Alright, that's out of the way. Let's talk about more fun stuff. --- # Notable things this month - [[Samurai Jack]] is fire. - I've just built out a note about [[Audio synthesis]] after being inspired by a YouTube video listing a bunch of them. - It's actually been a huge while since I wanted to wrap my head around the fundamentals of what makes sounds and how to recreate them, so that I may feel more confident and in control when making music. I feel like laying out this note will have been one of the most important building blocks of this goal. - I've played the Global Jam of [[Drag x Drive]] - I've tried [[Vivobarefoot|barefoot shoes]]. Didn't go out too much this month though, so extended testing will have to be done next month as I resume my job endeavours. - I've done a massive spree of file organisation, finally getting a major batch of project files off of the accursed Google Drive, and all neatly sorted on my NAS. - Nothing to write about yet, but finally unearthing some of my old projects, and seeing them within a timeline of all my projects gave me a bit of a clearer view on who I am as an artist, and gives me a bit of inspiration. - I suppose I did do a few drawings, and also coded a few more bits into [[ARCHA]], so yeah, I wasn't entirely unproductive. Nothing to share however. %% Oh, I like what is happening here. I don't even have to say much about the notes in here, because supposedly the notes themselves are gonna talk about those topics in more interesting ways. Neat. So monthly newsletter is just a cool pointer of what happened this month, all explained in detail in each notes. As you can see I'm discovering the process of writing these newsletter live with you. %% --- # NAS upgrade underway Some more news. The [[Olkris-NAS|NAS]], since it is really struggling like mad and barely able to run a Minecraft server, not to mention any other services in parallel, I think it's due time we set up a fund for an upgrade we kept discussing about on my Discord server. After all, this NAS was thrown together from my old PC parts which are outspec'd by 10 years for consumer grade applications (not even multitasking on a server). My poor Ryzen 7 2700X CPU was all ready to go to the retirement home and I said "No, keep working for me old fool". So there it is, I've set up a fund through PayPal, you can check the updated tally and contributors on my [[Olkris's about me page#💚 Ways to support me|about me page]]. As of writing, we are at about 900 / 1100 euros for the upgrade. This has gone faster than I anticipated, so thanks a lot to everyone who helped out, you guys are awesome After the upgrade is complete, I will move out the names of the people who contributed to the fund directly into the credits of the NAS's note. With this we'll get a jump all the way to the Ryzen 9 9950X, with a nice *16 cores* (juicy). And we're going from a measly 16Gb of RAM to 48Gb. That should give us a lot of breathing room for apps to expand themselves and have enough memory for themselves without fighting. My PC is looking with jealousy, as its upgrade was definitely not as cool. --- # Planned writeups Here's some planned writeups that I've had in my backlog for a while but never took the time to write : - [[Gyro vs. Mouse, which is best]] - [[Short form content vs. saving time]] - [[Nintendo Switch 2 HDR setup]] - [[PQ vs. HLG saga]] If any of those sound like interesting reads, do mention it in my DMs and I'll look into writing them. --- # Wrapping up Well, there we have it. First newsletter. Done. Feel good to go back through what was done each month. A thinking exercise on what to keep, and what to change, as well as what is worth sharing. I will see how much I will be able to do in terms of personal projects next month, what with the job taking up most of my energy. And I hope I'll be able to keep a bit of my better sleep schedule I've fallen into this end of the month. It's now time for me to brace myself for the coming work. See you guys next month 👋
